Microchipping staff: employee management of the future?

29 January 2019

A recent article by HR Magazine has taken a look into a new emerging trend for employers – that of microchipping their employees.

Caroline Denbow, Director of Compliance at Loch Law, shared her expertise with the publication, looking at the legal implications of the controversial suggestions. The discussion covers the pros and cons of microchipping in the workplace, as well as concerns over data protection, security and ethics.

The article introduces the subject:

“It sounded like an Orwellian nightmare. The Telegraph was the first to announce recently that Swedish firm Biohax was in talks with several UK firms about implanting staff with microchips that would allow them to enter and exit the workplace with a swipe of their hand – all in the name of heightened security and preventing employees accessing sensitive areas.”
